South Jordan UT

South Jordan is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, 18 miles south of Salt Lake City.The city is located in the Salt Lake Valley, between the Oquirrh Mountains and the Wasatch Mountains, on the banks of the Jordan River. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan region. South Jordan, UT is bordered to the north by West Jordan, Riverton, and Herriman to the south, and Sandy and Draper to the east by a number of communities. South Jordan had a population of 77,487 people in 2020.

South Jordan’s history dates back to July 1847, when Mormon pioneers emerged from Emigration Canyon to find a huge windswept valley stretching thirty miles to the southwest. A small group of pioneers traveled across the Jordan River to build homes and farms less than two years later, as towns began to pop up in various areas around the valley. In 1849, Alexander Beckstead and his family were among the first few to begin homesteading “across Jordan.” Beckstead’s original home was in West Jordan, but in 1859, he and his family permanently relocated to South Jordan.

Salt Lake City’s fast-rising bedroom neighborhood, South Jordan, was founded in 1859 by Mormon pioneers and was originally an agrarian town. The Jordan River Parkway runs through the city for 3.5 miles and features fishing ponds, paths, parks, and natural ecosystems. Kennecott Property, a land development corporation, has recently started work on the master-planned Daybreak Community, which would span the whole western half of South Jordan and might double the city’s population. There were two temples built by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Jordan and Provo. They are called the Jordan River Utah Temple and Oquirrh Mountain, Utah temples. They were built in the same year.

The weather in South Jordan, UT, is divided into four distinct seasons. The spring season is hot and humid with regular rainstorms, as well as wind and thunderstorms. Summers are hot and dry with little rainfall; average summer temperatures range from the low to mid-90s, with occasional heat waves reaching the low-100s. During the day, temperatures return to the comfortable 70s and 80s, but at night, they dip into the 40s and 30s. There are periods of milder weather and colder weather during the winter.

The Aquatic and Fitness Center, the Community Center, which offers senior programming, three fishing ponds fed with rainbow trout and catfish by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and Mulligan’s two miniature golf and two nine-hole executive golf courses are all owned by South Jordan City.
