West Jordan is a city in Utah’s Salt Lake County. It is a Salt Lake City suburb with a diversified economy.
The city had a population of 116,961 people according to the 2020 Census, making it the third most populated in the state.
At an elevation of 4,330 feet, the city is located at the southwest extremity of the Salt Lake Valley (1,320 m). The city is named after the nearby Jordan River, and its boundaries begin on the river’s western bank and end in the eastern foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains, where the world’s largest man-made excavation, the Kennecott Copper Mine, is located.
After the foundation of Salt Lake City, West Jordan was one of the first Utah pioneer settlements. The community’s origins may be traced back to the late 1850s, when several pioneers began to spread out across the Salt Lake valley.

AAU champions Floyd Richardson and Rex Layne (also a major professional challenger), Olympic champion Jay Lambert, and Gene Fullmer’s brother Don, who challenged for the middle-weight title, are among the notable fighters.
